"To die in a cool way while protecting my comrades." That's what Nao strongly desires, due to his adult-onset chuunibyou syndrome and despair from being cuckolded by his girlfriend. However, contrary to his expectations, he gets assigned to the Coast Guard where he ends up performing stellarly, thanks(?) to his quick mind and his unit's troublemakers. He'd surely die in the line of duty, as rearguard in desperate close-quarters combat, but his subordinates annihilate the enemies in an instant! In an ensuing battle with space pirates, he thinks to stay behind and ram the ships, but the enemy ship has engine trouble and he ends up capturing it! Contrary to his wishes, and notwithstanding being vexed by his fierce and strongly willed (female) adjutant, as well as a mecha-crazed and meathead sergeant major duo (also female), he not only receives a two-rank special promotion but quickly speeds along the fast track to success.
